At Palliative Care Namibia, we envision a future where every Namibian has access to compassionate & holistic palliative care.
Our mission is to champion palliative and hospice care across the nation, advocating for patient-centered support that empowers autonomy and ensures comprehensive care for patients and their families.
What is Palliative Care?
Palliative care is a specialised, interdisciplinary approach that enhances the quality of life for individuals facing life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses. It focuses on managing pain and symptoms while addressing emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.
Recognised by the World Health Assembly Resolution 67.19 as an essential part of comprehensive healthcare, palliative care provides hope and dignity to patients and their families from the moment of diagnosis. It ensures holistic support throughout the illness journey, improving overall well-being and quality of life.
Holistic, Patient-Centred Care
Palliative care is provided through a multi- and interdisciplinary approach, ensuring that both patients and their families receive physical, emotional, and bereavement support from the time of diagnosis.
Beyond End-of-Life Support
While traditionally linked to hospice care, palliative care is not limited to end-of-life services. It applies throughout the illness journey, offering relief from pain and suffering for individuals diagnosed with serious conditions such as cancer and other chronic diseases.
An Essential Part of Healthcare
Given Namibia’s high disease burden, integrating palliative care into the healthcare system is crucial. It is no longer just about managing physical pain but also addressing mental, emotional, and social well-being as part of a comprehensive healthcare approach.
